Second Line

The Second Line is the latter-half of the funeral, which starts with a slow march dirge (like "A Closer Walk", or "St. James Imfimiry")with deceased on their way to the cemetery. After the casket is deposited into the tomb and the eulogy, the band and the mourners reform and march towards the gate. Then the band goes straight into a fast-paced version of "The Saints" and various other tunes through the streets to the reception. The "Second-liners" are people who heard the music and came out to join the celebration of the soul, although they might have no idea who the deceased was. We love a good parade in New Orleans.
